Three Generations

This photo is an example of when good ideas go bad. What captured my attention when I saw the three men was how they were all framed separately with the Aluminium window frames behind them, each with their own story to tell, yet integrated through their body language.

Well I learned that, to be a good photographer, I have to step out of my comfort zone to get the shot!

An Incomplete .............. by me

When I was younger I enjoyed so many things ... one of which was "Art". I don't really know what happened in between now and then, but I drifted away (far far away)...

I decided to try and catchup with an old passion of mine and maybe I can pick up where I left few years ago ....
Its been a while now and I still could not "bridge" that gap that seems to grow wider as I try to come closer...

Well , maybe someday ....

Just a Reminder!

I took this photo in Kenya before i got deeper into photography.

I was reading an article on how to  take control of your life (not that my life is outta control) and somewhere through the article it says that in order to reach our goals in life we have to constantly remind our selves of our destination, where we want to end up ( words totally rewritten by me, but u got the meaning).

Well this photo pretty much sums up one of my goals in life and It will always be a reminder whenever things don't go as easy or as planned..that no matter how long your route may be.. concentrate on your destination.

Addicted to bashing!

As part of saying my goodbyes to a city that tried to get closer to me for the past year and half , I decided that it's time for me to get to know it.

What better way to get to know this city than experiencing its most unique activity involving a 4x4, a driver, and a sand dune. Well, I don't have the luxury of a 4x4 but an ATV sealed the deal.
Me and my friend, after a very hard and tiresome tries, experienced the adrenaline of dune bashing. It was the excitement of the ride, the cold breeze , the mesmerising scenery and the many laughs that made this sport one that I would be addicted to! Highly recommend.

How far will your dream take you?

Someone asked me , looong time ago, what was the most valuable thing I've learnt as a student abroad ? (not the exact words...) ... and the answer was/is that dreams have no limits over there....

Well, I have problems communicating my thoughts to others (which may be the reason behind photographing) but I'll try to make it clear... back to the subject..

My first day of school, as I was waiting at the dean's office , there was an "older" guy there who was talking about how he took time off school to travel the world and now he's back to complete his degree.. the first thought I had was "poor guy, what a waste of time" ...
I don't know what happened to this guy, if he was a success or failure... but I know that he did something that he wanted to do, something that he dreamt of, something that he risked so many good things he had going on ...

When I saw the jeans and shirts displayed on the walls of Deira the same thought came back to me ... these clothes have dreams too... dreams to make a better life... a determination that will challenge many struggles and humiliations....

Will our dreams defy all obstacles we place in our way? will we display our clothes in alleys because we can't afford the alternatives ? or will we continue to dream from the comfort of our existing lives? .... Just a thought

A Walk through the alleys of Deira

It's a fact...every person carries a secret. But what about cities?

This weekend I had the pleasure of exploring the streets of Deira, one of Dubai's oldest districts.
Here, many of the labor force take residence and comfort. Hidden behind the well known gold souk (market), a different world separated only by "few steps in the wrong direction". It was very inspiring to see how in a city of glamour, many can find pleasure in the simplest activities. There are gatherings behind every turn, people sharing breakfast, laughs, gossips (specially when I passed by). What I enjoyed most about this trip was the colourful painted walls and fabrics left outside to dry.
If you live in this city I suggest that you have a walk through the streets and alleys of Deira to experience a different side to Dubai.

Back

It's been a while now. It feels good to start fresh..again.

about two months ago ( I think!) I took part in Scott Kelby's photowalk here in Dubai. It was a nice way of getting to see many photographers in one place, although everyone was busy clicking. At the end of the day we were instructed to post our photos to enter the competition which was a world recognized one.
After a week of no expectations, we received an email stating the three winners of Dubai's photowalk and the overall winner and to my surprise, I was one of three!
The images were amazing (i loved the reflection one which was the overall winner ... you can see it in the Gulf photo plus site... and there were many other great ones ...)
The photograph I took was of some displayed sandals in the old market. I was drawn to the light and the colours.
Well, I really enjoyed this experience and I know that I have a long way to further develop my skills as a photographer. But for now, I will enjoy my win!
